Christmas Ivy Wreath

Monday, December 25, 2023

Fresh greenery is my favorite style for Christmas decor. And ivy topiaries in the shape of a wreath are at the top of my go-to Christmas fresh greenery.

Every season during the year has specific flowers and plants that are synonymous with that time of year. Wreaths are one of the most recognizable symbols of Christmas decorations and often are the first sign of the Christmas holidays. Cities and businesses add wreaths to front doors, street lamps, and windows.

Homeowners also hang wreaths on front doors and windows. And on gates, fences, car grills, fireplaces,...  EVERYWHERE. Wreaths are made of evergreens, pinecones, artificial berries, FEATHERS, but all proclaim Christmas.

For me, a live ivy topiary in the shape of a wreath is Christmas. Some years I add a sparkly ornament dangling inside the wreath to add more Christmas.

Christmas Ivy Wreath

This year, I placed a small artificial bird's nest with two green speckled eggs in an ivy wreath on the breakfast table. The nest was the inspiration for the rest of the decor for the wreath and table.

... a bird theme...

A golden glass bird ornament hangs inside the wreath, hovering over the bird's nest with eggs.

The bird theme led to adding a dark green faux birdhouse made from a scrap of a 4"x4" cedar post. For more Christmas decor, with a French twist, a gold-painted wood noël hangs from a small brass nail.

The roof of the faux birdhouse is a gold and white metal tile nailed to the birdhouse with more small gold brass nails.

A small white candle votive with gold fleur de lis holds a preserved boxwood ball. In the background is another favorite live greenery for Christmas, a tree-shaped live rosemary plant.

Five gold standing metal stars add more gold and Christmas to the breakfast table arrangement.

A hanging fresh boxwood wreath, green and white fabric placemats, and coasters with Christmas evergreen prints complete the breakfast table decorations for Christmas. A gold star pillow and a blue/green/gold Christmas tree pillow sit on French style chairs. Understated, but definitely Christmas decor, will transition into Winter decor after the Christmas holidays.
