Christmas Ivy Wreath

Monday, December 25, 2023

Fresh greenery is my favorite style for Christmas decor. And ivy topiaries in the shape of a wreath are at the top of my go-to Christmas fresh greenery.

Every season during the year has specific flowers and plants that are synonymous with that time of year. Wreaths are one of the most recognizable symbols of Christmas decorations and often are the first sign of the Christmas holidays. Cities and businesses add wreaths to front doors, street lamps, and windows.

Homeowners also hang wreaths on front doors and windows. And on gates, fences, car grills, fireplaces,...  EVERYWHERE. Wreaths are made of evergreens, pinecones, artificial berries, FEATHERS, but all proclaim Christmas.

For me, a live ivy topiary in the shape of a wreath is Christmas. Some years I add a sparkly ornament dangling inside the wreath to add more Christmas.

Beautiful Outdoor Ivy Topiary Growing Tips

Saturday, May 1, 2021

Ivy topiaries are a beautiful way to add greenery to your home and garden all year. But, unusually prolonged freezing weather can damage or kill an ivy grown in a container outside.

Outdoor Ivy Topiary Growing Tips
Ivy is fairly drought tolerant and cold hardy, easy to train on a topiary frame, grows into shape within a year or two, and looks good during every season.

Ivy grown in containers are excellent plants for decks, porches, and structured gardens.

Fall Foyer | Gourds, Hydrangea, Ivy

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

This Fall I had so many ideas about how to style my small entry foyer ... cottage, French Country, traditional... that I did all three styles, one at a time, over the last six weeks. Here is a look at the final style where I used gourds, hydrangeas, and ivy to create a traditional styled entry.

Fall Foyer decorated with green gourds, hydrangeas, ivy wreath in front of blue and gold French Country mirror
Did I mention I did all three of these different styles using green, white, and blue instead of the usual yellows, rusts, and oranges for Fall?

Winter Living Room Greenery

Friday, January 4, 2019

Winter months can be bleak, but adding live greenery to your living room can keep the inside of your home from looking cold and dreary.

Ivy Heart Topiary in Bunny Pot

Monday, March 21, 2016

Minimalist white Winter is over, and
true love blue Spring is back.

I want to have more white in my house.
I truly do.

Until I see another beautiful ceramic flower pot with blue.
Who can resist that adorable bleu bunny?

Oh, yes, all of you who love green, or yellow, or red, or neutrals, or.........
Those of you who love green, this pattern comes in green also.

Ivy Topiary Love

Friday, February 26, 2016

Between the Spring flowers and Christmas decorations there is a period
when the house seems empty, missing something.

While putting away the holiday decorations does give the house
a lighter feeling with the kitchen counters bare,
there is a longing for something green and fresh...
in the quiet dead days of winter.

A longing that is filled with a fresh green ivy ball topiary...
IVY  TOPIARY  LOVE
❧

Topiaries have a way of providing just the right amount of needed greenery
with a flair that says, "I can stand alone, nothing else needed."
Of course, a beautiful pot in which to stand regally does add to the ivy.

Yes, ivy topiary love for a bare winter kitchen adds life to the house.

And gives promises for coming Spring
filled with trees, shrubs, grass, and flowers
budding with new life.

Callie loves plants of all kinds, not just ivy topiaries.
Looking for a way to add some freshness to your home this winter?
Try a little topiary love.

Then when the weather warms, move the topiary to your outside deck.

Sunspace Garden...Ladder Envy

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Seeing old ladders used
in creative ways makes me long for a ladder.

Sigh...

If only I could find an old, weathered,
paint-spattered wooden step ladder...
to decorate with gardening treasures...

Wait a minute...

I have something already,
even better.

A metal three-tiered shelf unit
with scalloped edges on the shelves and
French fleur-de-lis finials
has deeper shelves than a ladder.

Slowly being transitioned from
a Christmas look to a winter look...

The white pointsettia will continue to flower until March.

But, artificial snowdrops announce the end of winter is near.

Birds of all kinds of feathers make their nests in a variety of ways.
From glittery nests on bare stems....
To bleu ceramic planters...

To small handmade wooden birdhouses...

To small artificial branches under tendril-etched cloches.

A silver bell white twiggy Christmas looking wreath surrounding a
glass beehive

Gives way to a triple birdhouse with a California license roof and
three ceramic knobs as perches...

The birdhouse may be a mobile home for birds since
it has traveled all around the house
beginning with its creation.

On another stop it was decorated for Christmas outside on the
garden shed blue door.

For now, the birdhouse presides over the small white bookshelf...

Filled with gardening tools, both vintage and new...

And, with ivy topiaries waiting out winter, longing for outdoor spring weather instead.
The little Noël stake lingers a little longer.

Soon the heart-shaped topiary will instead wear little red decorations
in honor of Valentine's Day.

The preserved boxwood ball was spritzed with white paint
to renew its look for winter after losing its freshness.
(Should have been spritzed with WATER more often!)

The white bookshelf serves as a small winter
sunspace garden
very nicely.

Near the metal shelf that has ladder envy and
the breakfast table that held a little French Country Christmas

Sits my newest little divided box that is decorated with a fleur-de-lis and
waits for small treasures to fill its spaces.

The French inspired metal shelf is perfect in the
breakfast sunspace next to the winter garden-filled white shelf.

Ladder envy be gone!

No, I do not need a weathered wooden step ladder instead,
Do I?

Concrete Urn and Ivy

Monday, May 6, 2013

Recently this beautiful
concrete urn
came to live at my house.

So Jeanne D'Arc Living looking...
So French Country looking...

My inspiration...
French Inspirations by Jeanne D'Arc Living

I'm adding
more and more white
and more and more au naturel as spring turns into summer.

So far, the urn and the ivy.

With a little moss added...

Add a large grey ceramic heart...

Add lobelia
in beautiful sky blue.
My favorite color in one of my favorite flowers.

Add the throw pillow with a bird sitting amidst
blue flowers.

Moving the heart around...
Hmmm...think I'll move it back to the base of the urn.

Thinking about adding wild angel hair vines around the urn...

But for today,
I like the clean au naturel look of
the white urn on the white blanket box
with blue flowers, green moss, and green ivy.
