French Lavender in a French Market Basket

Tuesday, April 30, 2019

Artificial French lavender (lavande) in a reproduction French market basket evokes scenes from an earlier era in France and provides authentic vintage French style for a French-inspired garden and home in Texas.

You see French market baskets on wheels all over France as shoppers actually do use them to cart home their daily grocery purchases. You may even see a bouquet of flowers sitting on top, perhaps a large spray of lavender stems.

However, most modern-day French market baskets are just that, modern. Light weight, sleek open metal design, rectangularly shaped, state-of-the-art wheels built for traveling on sidewalks, up-and-down stairs, carted onto the metro, and folded up for storing once the contents are emptied.

To find a reproduction French market rattan basket with wheels fires my romantic fantasies of how France was in another era.

Winter French Country Living Room

Sunday, January 27, 2019

Winter decor in my French Country inspired living room includes an oval boxwood, an oval glass cloche, and a favorite old water bottle.

Live green plants are always among my favorite things in the house... in every room, but live rosemary trees are hard for me to keep alive.

Winter Blue Deer Pillow

When winter blues settle in, use a blue deer embroidered velvety pillow to give your home winter warmth.

While crisp and bright whites help cool inside on hot summer days, those same whites cool inside on cold winter days. Color mixed with white and warm natural woods give winter rooms more warmth than austere neutrals only.

Chandelier Envy

Friday, July 20, 2018

Chandeliers have never been high on my Wish List, until recently.  What do you do when you suddenly realize you have chandelier envy?

When you realize chandeliers in living rooms, over dining tables, in bathrooms, and even in greenhouses are classic French Country decor, you realize you NEED chandeliers to transform your American Country house to a French Country maison (home).

There are two chandeliers in my house already in the swing loft. I like them quite a lot, but they are not filled with French Country charm.

The fixture came with crystals, but I left them off. The crystals give a more formal look than I wanted for my post-and-beam country house when we installed the chandelier.

Now, I am rethinking the crystals since they may give a little more French Country look than the bare metal branches.

Garden Shed Fresh Paint

and a new exterior light fixture

The garden shed, known affectionately as the Jardin Château by my family, needed some fresh paint after braving the first six winters of its new life.

The beautiful little Jardin Château is home to my French Country Christmas Event each December, and you have seen lots of pretty pictures of it decked out in its finest.

Today you are getting to see real life and how to deal with it so the little shed will continue to be beautiful for many more years.

The French doors were looking a little shabby due to their paint exposed to the elements.

Plus, the fascia board above the front French doors was suffering from moisture damage and beginning to look a little moldy.

I'll Be Home For Christmas

Christmas means time for family gatherings.
Time for coming together
to laugh, to reminisce, to share.
Time together
to renew bonds, to meet new family members,
to worship, to reaffirm loyalties, and
to express love.

My gift to you...
Seven days of Christmas sayings and images...

The beauty of

I'll Be Home For Christmas

I'll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
