Christmas Sayings...#7

Silent Night, Holy Night

In the stillness of the night,
in the stillness of our souls,
we ponder what wondrous glories
have occurred.

 A silent, holy night
two millennia ago
ushered in a birth
filled with hope for all.

Silent Night, Holy Night

Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright,
'Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake, at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born.

Joseph Mohr and Franz Gruber, Silent Night

Merry Christmas

Of all the sayings of Christmas,
Merry Christmas
is the one most often used to express
the sentiments of the season.

 A joyous phrase uttered
with a smile and heartfelt warmth
uplifts both the hearer and
the sayer.

 Whatever the language,
Joyeux Noël
gladdens our hearts and
carries us to the magical
place in our minds we created for
the most wonderful time of the year.

Merry Christmas
to all and to all a good-night.

'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
... ... ... ... ...

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

~ Clement Clarke Moore, A Visit From Saint Nicholas

I Will Honour Christmas In My Heart

Ebenezer
is such a well-known character
in literature.
No last name is needed,
but his last name,
Scrooge,
is even more well-known than Ebenezer.

Scrooge had a second chance to reform...
from being a bitter old miser
to becoming a generous benefactor.

We have many opportunities at Christmas
to be generous,
but the true spirit of Christmas is
a way of life all year.

I Will Honour Christmas In My Heart

I will honour Christmas in my heart,
and try to keep it all the year.
I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future.
The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me.
I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!

It's a Wonderful Life

Christmas is a time for
counting our blessings.

A season for remembering
the good that happened this year.

 For recognizing who we are
far outweighs what we have.
For measuring our lives by
by intangibles, not tangibles.

For looking at our loved ones
with gratitude for how they
enrich our lives.

It's a Wonderful Life

Clarence: Your brother, Harry Bailey, broke through the ice and was drowned at the age of nine.

George: That's a lie! Harry Bailey went to war! He got the Congressional Medal of Honor! He saved the lives of every man on that transport.

Clarence: Every man on that transport died! Harry wasn't there to save them, because you weren't there to save Harry.

You see, George, you really had a wonderful life. Don't you see what a mistake it would be to throw it away?

Yes, Virginia, There Is A
Santa Claus

Christmas is for children...
of all ages.

 It is the season for

 believing...

 with a childlike wonderment
in things seen
and a childlike faith
in things unseen.

Yes, Virginia, There Is A
Santa Claus

Alas!
How dreary would be the world
if there were no Santa Claus!
It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias.
There would be
no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance
to make tolerable this existence.

 We should have no enjoyment,
except in sense and sight.
The eternal light
with which childhood fills the world
would be extinguished.

I'll Be Home For Christmas

Christmas means time for family gatherings.
Time for coming together
to laugh, to reminisce, to share.
Time together
to renew bonds, to meet new family members,
to worship, to reaffirm loyalties, and
to express love.

I'll Be Home For Christmas

I'll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
