French Country Mirror | Decorated for Christmas

Thursday, December 12, 2019

With a snippet of fleur de lis gold and white ribbon and a small preserved boxwood wreath, you can dress up a French country white wood mirror for Christmas.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas ... everywhere you look. And one of the easiest ways to give everyday mirrors some holiday cheer is to add a small wreath hanging from a ribbon.

French country mirror layered in front of a gold-framed everyday print adds Christmas style
A small French country mirror adds a touch of Christmas itself when layered in front of an existing gold-framed everyday print above a chest of drawers. Ribbon and wreath add even more Christmas cheer.

The mirror is narrow enough for the existing print to still peek out to one side of the mirror.

TIP: Mirrors are not only for reflecting yourself, but are also great for reflecting other items in the same space. The mirror and adjacent flower pot are French country style, and the mirror reflects a print of an Impressionist painting on the opposite wall, multiplying the French country style of the room.

A large pink poinsettia fits easily beside the narrow mirror and adds natural Christmas greenery to the room. One of the nice things about using potted plants for Christmas decor is plants last much longer than cut flowers and greenery.

What is it about gold that makes items more festive? Somehow a gold-topped mirror seems more Christmas-y than a mirror just painted white.

While the mirror adds extra holiday style with its large gold fleur de lis top, adding a boxwood wreath to the mirror steps up the holiday decor.

Boxwood wreaths are beautiful for year-round decorating, and hanging one from a gold and white fleur de lis ribbon elevates the wreath from everyday to Christmas!

TIP: Use a small gold brass nail on which to hang the ribbon since the large fleur de lis on top of the mirror poses a problem for how to hang a ribbon from it.

Tap the brass nail into the top of the mirror in front of the fleur de lis. Tie a small knot in the ribbon and hide the tails of the knot at the back of the ribbon behind the nail.

The mirror, the gold and white ribbon, the boxwood wreath, and the large pink poinsettia transformed the pine chest of drawers from everyday style to beautiful Christmas decor.
