Nostalgia,
Procrastination,
Reluctance,
are all words that describe
why
greenery & lights
are still up and about at my house
the second week of January.
Christmas is a magical time filled with promises
of love, laughter, joy.
Why does it have to disappear so quickly?
Why can't we have the reminders for a little longer?
I am not ready to see it go.
I still like seeing the welcome to my house...
The soft blur of lights surrounded by fresh greens...
The beautiful little tree with its dark green branches,
perfect shape, and just right single top stem
looks so cheerful leaning against the wall.
The holly tree and the mossy brick steps
aren't ready to see the greenery go either.
Bonjour, my friends,
not au revoir,
just a little while longer let's look at
the blue berries and the little green tree.
Let's enjoy the
little red ribbon holding the single
red ornament
just a few more days.
The
BIG
tree that adorned the living room
is gone from the living room.
Sad to say, it doesn't look like its beautiful self
that sat on the deck waiting to come inside.
No, now it's dry, brittle, and ready
to become mulch.
But,
the bright lights on the outdoor arbor are still cheery.
So, let's keep the front entrance greenery and
the cheery arbor lights a few more days
to remind us of the
love, laughter, and joy
promised by
Christmas.

I so agree! I hate for Christmas to end and leave some things up for a bit. The wreaths are still on the front doors and a couple of things here and there are still lingering. I did take the lights down from the front entry and today will change the N O E L on the armoire to L O V E until the end of February. We must have Christmas in our hearts! Have an awesome day!
ReplyDeleteI say yes! Though signs of Christmas are no longer here, I did allow the snow people to stay out for January. A little greenery remains in a dough bowl filled with copper molds. Looks like winter to me. I was tempted to leave the greenery with the string of lights on the mantel, but in the midst of packing things they too were stored away. Your entry is lovely. Continue to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI miss all the trappings and love at Christmas. We need to keep Christmas in our hearts.
ReplyDeleteyou've just explained

I'm with you! I took everything down but I do still have our dining room Christmas tree up. I love the warm glow through the window at night. I love Christmas and I always put up lots of decorations. I start really early so I can enjoy them as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteI've been clicking all around your blog - love it! Your French chairs are beautiful and I love the white feathers that you stamped!
Thanks so much for visiting and commenting on my blog. I really appreciate it and am so glad to have found yours. I'll be following along!

If you are enjoying your lights, by all means leave them a little bit longer. Happy New Year to you.
ReplyDeleteHi GirlieQ...
ReplyDeleteI still have greenery and lights too! We are in good company :^) I even have greenery and lights (candles) as a centerpiece on my DR table. Company that was here over the weekend thought it was beautiful! One strand of my outside lights are snowflakes...they are still up and lit! Everwhere I look, they are promoting Valentines Day as if it were Christmas....bah-humbug....give me sweet smelling greenery and warm lighting any old day. I'll give my Valentine a kiss and a hug, but I don't need to decorate for him ;^)
Your sweet angel is still holding court over the cabinet in the DR too. She seems to be very content as she commands us to "Celebrate"!
Blessings to you, and have a wonderful "new" year!

I took them down on the 12th, but only because it was in my front window. I really enjoy them, so you should leave your decor up as long as you like. I love the arbor! Well, I can speak for myself, because my backyard is not done, but people in the southwest leave white lights up all the time in their desert gardens.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you don't want to let the greenery and lights of Christmas go. They are all so beautiful! I know what you mean about the magic of Christmas! LOVE your lighted arbor!
