Christmas Ivy Wreath

Monday, December 25, 2023

Fresh greenery is my favorite style for Christmas decor. And ivy topiaries in the shape of a wreath are at the top of my go-to Christmas fresh greenery.

Every season during the year has specific flowers and plants that are synonymous with that time of year. Wreaths are one of the most recognizable symbols of Christmas decorations and often are the first sign of the Christmas holidays. Cities and businesses add wreaths to front doors, street lamps, and windows.

Homeowners also hang wreaths on front doors and windows. And on gates, fences, car grills, fireplaces,...  EVERYWHERE. Wreaths are made of evergreens, pinecones, artificial berries, FEATHERS, but all proclaim Christmas.

For me, a live ivy topiary in the shape of a wreath is Christmas. Some years I add a sparkly ornament dangling inside the wreath to add more Christmas.

Christmas Horizontal Snowy Wreath

Wednesday, December 22, 2021

This Christmas a horizontal snowy wreath added a new twist to decorating for the holiday season. Instead of an evergreen wreath hanging from the front door or windows, I hung a white twig wreath horizontally above my breakfast table.

For a twist on Christmas wreaths, hang a horizontal wreath above a dining table.
The white twig wreath reminded me of snowy winter branches. Artificial snowy blue spruce stems on top of the twig wreath add to the snow theme of the wreath. I found several glass snowy Christmas ornaments this year which are also beautiful for a snowy-themed wreath.

The Best Christmas Greenery Idea | Tree Slice As A Wreath

Wednesday, December 9, 2020

The best Christmas greenery idea I have had in decades occurred to me when I thought of cutting a fresh Christmas wreath from a small evergreen tree. A slice from the middle section of a fresh Fraiser fir tree makes an excellent wreath already arranged in a circle.

Best Christmas Greenery Idea is a slice from the tree as a wreath
You can use a tree slice as a wreath on a door or window, but another way to use a wreath is as a base for a greenery arrangement in a beautiful ceramic container. Instead of using the greenery vertically, the tree slice fills a large footed ceramic urn.

Tips for Best Ever Christmas Wreath

Tuesday, December 3, 2019

Tips for the best ever Christmas wreath for your front door start with a store-bought fresh wreath. And, if you live near a Trader Joe's, you can buy a reasonably-priced fresh wreath with pine cones and fresh juniper berries. With a handful of tips you can take the already gorgeous wreath to a special one.

Like the wreath on my front door AFTER I transformed a basic fresh evergreen wreath...

Tips for best ever Christmas wreath with stars on blue front door
There is something special about a Christmas wreath on a front door. Seeing a wreath when passing by or when visiting a home makes me smile and feel the joy of the Christmas season. For those of us who grew up reading Southern Living magazine, a Christmas wreath made using fresh greenery says Southern hospitality at its finest.

Thank you, Amber of Follow the Yellow Brick Home, for gathering twenty of us together to share the beauty of Christmas Door Decor. I love giving my readers beautiful inspiration for adding special holiday decor to their front doors. Links to all the ideas are at the end of the article.

Winter Blue and White Bathroom

Friday, February 15, 2019

Decorating a blue and white bathroom for winter has its challenges, but deer and wreath decor works beyond the Christmas holiday as winter decor also.

Winter blue and white bathroom wreath decor in the window and on the towel
Wreaths are good decor any time of the year. As you step into my blue and white master bathroom from the bedroom you can spot four wreaths, and two of them stay out all year round.

There is a fifth wreath on the wood panel sconce not visible from this angle, which makes three wreaths that are part of the bathroom's daily decor.

Hanging Horizontal Wreath

Step-by-Step Directions

Updated: December 4, 2024

Christmas is the time for "hanging the greens," mistletoe, holly, ivy, evergreens. Traditionally businesses, homes, and churches now hang greens the first day of Advent, but the tradition has deeper roots in ancient Druid, Celt, Norse, and Roman cultures that celebrated the winter solstice which occurs around December 21.

If you love hanging greens in your home as part of your family's traditions and would like to hang a horizontal evergreen wreath, it is much easier than you may think. Since this post first appeared, horhzontal wreath hangers are now available to buy. Hanging a horizontal wreath became as easy as 1, 2, 3!  1) Attach a ceiling hook where you want to hang your wreath. 2) Place wreath on a horizontal wreath hanger. 3) Hang wreath from hook.
If you do not have a horizontal wreath hanger, here is a DIY step-by-step guide for how to hang a horizontal boxwood wreath.

Christmas Sparkle Greenery Throughout the House

Thursday, December 7, 2017

Are your Christmas decorations the same style as they were ten or twenty years ago? Or perhaps your decorations have changed like many other Americans' decorations.

What better way to spot old and new traditions than with a Christmas blog tour!

Today is the fourth day of a week long tour, Cozy at Christmas. Katie at Let's Add Sprinkles organized over twenty bloggers to share our homes for this Christmas. Thanks, Katie, for inviting me, and thanks to all of you for visiting. I think you will find some ideas to inspire your Christmas decorations this year.

December is such a busy time of the year, but the hustle and bustle of the holiday month always fills me with CHEER. Earlier this week several Texas bloggers gathered for lunch in McKinney, TX. We had a grand time laughing and catching up with the latest exciting news. There were a few secrets shared about upcoming events for some of the bloggers. I can't wait to see to their secret projects  revealed in the coming months.

French Country Christmas Garden Shed

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Do you have a favorite shop that you cannot wait to see
decorated at Christmas time?
A place you know will have special items you
cannot find at other shops in your area...

That is the kind of place where I want to shop.

For years we had a very special store, Quilted Hearts
where I found special Christmas ornaments, gifts, and cards.
All my friends and I were so sad when it closed.

Each year we also traveled three hours south to historic Salado, Texas
for its annual Christmas Tour of Homes.
Once we finished the tour, we shopped in
several small stores filled with unusual finds.
Sir Wigglesworth, my favorite store,
was owned by a talented artistic decorator.
Her displays and merchandise were always very special.
A few years ago this store also closed.
Combining my love of Christmas and France, I decided
to offer garden and home gifts at Christmas time
and to create a special Christmas shopping event in my garden house.

Welcome to a review of what's in the
2014 French Country
Christmas Event.

Freshness in green and white...

Handpainted NOEL sign and
fleur-de-lis linen towels
in traditional Christmas colors...

PAPERWHITES planted November 13 with
the first peeks of white blooms on November 29...

A trio of blue-tinged candles in a vintage French zinc seed pot...

A vintage wooden sled from Europe
showcases all things 'deer'...

Candles, matches, kitchen towels, paper napkins,
fabric deer ornaments, and a fun white reindeer candy/salad/soup bowl...

A French wire basket holds fresh pine, a large sugar pinecone, and antlers...
a simple nature-inspired centerpiece.

It's the little things that make the difference in gift-wrapping.
A small wooden deer clip with glittered antlers,
brown deer-shaped ribbon, and a gold glass star
make even the smallest package special.

These little touches are the kinds of things I always enjoy finding.

One of my absolute favorite finds this year is the fabric deer ribbon
that comes in ivory, embroidered in brown with gold bells,
and red, embroidered in dark gray with silver bells.

Individually, they are beautiful package and napkin embellishments.
Used in 'herds', they would make a one-of-a-kind table runner or placemat.
No sewing needed... just use special iron-on fuser to fuse the deer to the fabric.

Christmas joy in the kitchen comes from
paper plates/napkins, Santa salad plates, Christmas coasters,
foaming Christmas-scented soap, bird-themed wooden tray,
kitchen towels, pot holders, and oven mitts.

A pot holder paired with a wooden bird and a sprig of holly can
make it Christmas in the kitchen the entire month of December.

Hand-carved wooden bird ornaments...

A Paris subway 3-D metal wall hanging...

To read all these metro stops' names brings back wonderful
memories of trips to Paris over the years.
During the majority of the year, it is fantastic as
art over a bed, over a chest of drawers, or over a desk where
daily memos, grocery lists, and French ephemera can be displayed.

At Christmas time, it becomes a special
Christmas card display board, highlighted by a Noël banner
printed on golden metallic paper that is held in place
with four of those wooden reindeer with glittered antlers.

The banner is easy to create using a graphic from Etsy
overprinted with letters using the font, Party LET

Wouldn't a greenery wreath around the spire add a Christmas touch to
the large metal birdhouse?

An old pale blue painted ladder makes a great display shelf for
a bird's nest and a handcrafted burlap bird eggs print.

Preserved boxwood wreath with a red-script ribbon...
On a mirror, a painting, a window, or
my favorite place, a French armoire door...

Christmas and French-inspired garden and home items make my
garden house a special place every December.
If you are in the Dallas-Fort Worth area,
you are invited to come to the
French Country Christmas Event
where you may find something very special this Christmas.

For those not in the Dallas-Fort Worth area,
send an email if you would like more information about
something in this year's Christmas Event.
