Birdhouses are among my favorite things. Little wonder when a red rustic birdhouse belonging to my sister-in-law captured my attention one fall while visiting her and my brother.. Out came the camera and the little birdhouse became the star of a photo style shoot at their farmhouse in Alabama.

Nothing says Christmas like RED! Add a touch of red color and instantly everyday decor becomes beautiful Christmas decor. By changing two items in my French Country inspired bathroom and adding red French Country decor, my bathroom is now decorated for Christmas.
Four red Christmas items grouped together make a bigger impact than scattering the four items around a room. Having all four red items together creates a focal point that draws everyone's eyes directly to the window area of the bathroom, including from the adjoining bedroom. Only later does anyone notice another spot of red...

Inspiration for a colorful red and navy blue Christmas table setting this year came from beautiful fabric found in the Montmatre fabric district in Paris, France. Used as a tablecloth, the jewel tones of red and navy are the perfect setting for blue Fitz and Floyd china, red Fostoria glasses, and a collection of blue and red angels.
Traditional red poinsettia flowers with cedar and fir greenery in a navy ceramic flower pot make an equally perfect centerpiece.

Dress up a wire mesh birdcage for Christmas with faux red berries, fresh tree clippings, preserved moss, tiny pine cones, and a cheery red plaid ribbon. Later this week read about a coordinating berry red cardinal and rustic grapevine and berry wreath on placemats and napkins for a Christmas table setting.
A marvelous thing about this wonderful time of the year is almost everything can be dressed up for Christmas, including a wire mesh birdcage.

For some reason the color red immediately brings Christmas to mind. Add red to any scene, and the scene becomes Christmas. Make that a red truck, and the Christmas factor soars. If the red truck has a green tree in its bed, Christmas shouts from the rooftops of the mind, "Merry Christmas!"
Add the scent of rosemary to chase away any thoughts other than Christmas.
Add the scent of rosemary to chase away any thoughts other than Christmas.
Add a few dents here and there to the truck, and Christmas in Texas comes to my mind. Trucks for working ranches, farms, and construction sites are the reasons for trucks in Texas. Not city-slicker trucks with chrome bumpers parked in front of a luxury hotel in New York.
Red trucks with 200,000 miles on their odometers travel two-lane backroads hauling needed supplies. Jolting along over potholes, gravel, and mud, the ride is not easy on the passengers, the cargo, or the truck.
Yepper, an old dented red truck hauling green rosemary trees in its bed says, "Christmas in Texas."

Hurrah for the
Red, White, & Bleu
all summer long...
May 26 ~~~ Memorial Day
June 14 ~~~ Flag Day
July 4 ~~~ Independence Day
July 14 ~~~ Bastille Day
of course, a little French has to be included
September 2 ~~~ Labor Day
A celebration table that will
set the joie de vivre for any of our patriotic holidays...
Just seeing red, white, and blue cheers me!
Hurrah for the red, white, and blue,
may it wave as our banner forever...
Holidays bring families together
to enjoy good food, to enjoy laughter, and
to enjoy swapping stories.
To show how important families are to us,
we set tables with special dishes and decor.
The table runner is two kitchen towels from France.
I mixed the unexpected red dominoes with
traditional themes of stars and stripes for a fun table
and as a reminder of fun games to come later this day.
Lots of memories of good times/jokes recanted to
young, old, new to the family, those who
just want to hear it again...
"Mr. J took a bite of Mrs. J's ice cream,
when she asked for a bite of his in return,
he said, 'close your eyes, open wide,'
and gave her a BIG spoonful...
of MAYONNAISE."
Most of us do not have
sets and sets of dishes to create
a multi-layered place setting.
The red, white, and blue striped layer is
a french fries paper holder from World Market.
Flags and flowers...
The American and French flags are in an
antique blue bottle.
White flowers, red berries, and blue stars...
Place cards are homemade using white card stock
trimmed with deckle-edge scissors and
decorated with US Postage stamps.

~~~~~~~~~~~~Freedom~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~Liberty~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Words that describe ideals we hold dear...
The fleur de lis is a nod to
the French who celebrate
the French National Day of independence,
known as Bastille Day,
on July 14.
Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité
Liberty, Equality, Fraternity
The national motto of France...
Stories of aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, babies...
AND
Stories of time spent serving
in the military, defending our freedom.
Three nephews, brothers in the same family,
who were career military...
The oldest in the Air Force, the middle one in the Navy, and
the youngest in the Army...
Each with different stories...
Tours in Iraq...
Working in the Pentagon on Sept. 10, 2001,
but not on Sept. 11, 2001...
Repairing ships...
Moods lighten and thoughts turn to
dominoes "42" which is one of the favorite games in this family.
After the dishes are washed and put away,
the centerpiece remains and so does the
patriotic basket on the coat closet door
seen from the table.
A faded American flag design basket holds
American and Texas flags,
plus flag tissue paper,
bluebonnet printed ribbon,
and a flag decorated legal envelope.
The patriotic basket will hang
all summer
from the closet door hook
as a celebration
of all our
red, white, and blue holidays.
