Deer Christmas Table

Sunday, December 21, 2014

Deer, deer, deer...
Everywhere I look this year I see deer in Christmas decor.

Is this deer smiling at us?

Carrying a load of fresh cedar, juniper, fraser fir, horse apples,
and antlers, he is dressed as the Christmas table centerpiece.
Simple greenery gathered from the yard and from the trimmings of a
Christmas tree made a quick, easy, and no-expense arrangement.

He has a herd of friends with him.
Deer, deer, and more deer...

Two cotton kitchen towels placed end to end create a center table runner that
matches the paper napkins draped over each plate.
Could there be more regal deer than these?

The white bowl at each place holds a small gift decorated with
a wooden deer clip with glittered antlers and hooves, but could
hold more traditional fare such as soup or salad.
Do you see that cute little deer tail at one end of the bowl?

White deer ornaments do double duty as place card holders and as table favors for guests.
A close up of the wooden reindeer clip reveals its glittered antlers and hooves.

Two options for napkin rings, both of which are ribbons.
First is the individual fabric ivory ribbon deer snipped
from a spool of embroidered linked deer ribbon.
A metallic ribbon tied around a rolled napkin becomes elaborate reins
that also hold the deer in place on the napkin.
Just slide the deer's head under the tied gold ribbon
and twirl the ends of the ribbon to flow in the wind.
The second option is a short length of deer-shaped brown ribbon
tied around a rolled napkin.
Both are so pretty and unusual, I couldn't choose which to use.
So, I used both!

Tree-shaped salad plates have reclining deer.
Balsam Fir candles come in decorated keepsake boxes that also match
the kitchen towel table runner and paper napkins at each place.

Oh, so many beautiful deer.

Just a couple of green deer amidst all the white ones add a little touch of color
to tie the fresh greenery and the green in the table linens together.

The year of the
Deer Christmas Table

makes a striking table setting close up,
from the hallway,

from the landing on the stairs across the hallway from the dining area.
Do you see the silver reindeer flying from ribbons above the hallway?
Those are from Pottery Barn many years ago...
ahead of the trend.

Am I the only one who sees deer everywhere this year?

Merry Christmas from my home to yours.

  1. Judith, I'm crushing on deer for the holidays too. I set a table with tartan dishes and the green deer ornaments for a lunch table. Then last week, I used the white deer ornaments with our china for a dinner party. Yes, I'm seeing deer this season and love what I see. Where did you find the wonderful ribbons? Also the tea towels and paper napkins. They are all wonderful.
One of my favorite finds this year was a darling pin cushion pillow ~ a reindeer motif of course. '-)
    Happy Holidays!

    1. Sarah,
The deer ribbons, tea towels, and paper napkins were in my French Country Christmas Event this year as was the wire deer centerpiece, deer soup/salad bowls, and the tree-shaped salad plates. Every place I looked to gather things for this year's event had all these wonderful deer items.

  2. WOWOWOWOWOWO! Judith, more photos of your house has given me such a joy this morning! Those beams....YES! And you are right about the deer this year. I have a mad crush on antlers and I want some so badly but they cost about $35 a piece! I hope to splurge however.....Your table looks fabulous. I had two friends over last night for a last minute meal of simple, French table was sparse but pretty. But I need to really PLAN my meals and table arrangements for a grand show such as this...lovely!

  3. Judith,
Oh my dear Judith your Deer table is the coolish setting I've seen for this Christmas. Fresh greens and a creatively designed deer theme. Yes deers are appearing in many savvy homes this winter season. Your home is stunning and very tastefully decorated.

  4. Such a wonderful woodsy table, love the deer! and those napkins are just adorablel!!

  5. Your table...and home looks gorgeous! I love the deer linens. I have some old flocked deer in my entry so I'm seeing deers for the holidays, too! Merry Christmas! Hugs, Diane

  6. Beautiful is an understatement! I'm so impressed Judith. I too see deer at every turn, although not here in Sunny Ville. I have the original Pottery Barn silver reindeer with the ball candles on the antlers. They were a gift from my folks in the early 90s. Once again you have bedazzled us with a gorgepis table!

  7. Very elegant and very beautiful - but I expect no less from you! The deer theme does seem to be very popular this year and it is wonderfully used in your settings. My theme this year has centered around fleur-de-lis as I have a lot of things with this theme. The packages look lovely with gold fleur-de-lis gift tags, gold wired ribbon bows on the cream and gold angel print gift wrap. Have a very joyous celebration, my friend!

  8. Oh I have an obcession with deer right now and this is stunning. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me.

  9. Such a beautiful table for the holiday season - love the dear - now I am thinking I may have to try finding some. Thank you so much for sharing at Share It One More Time. Cathy

  10. I love deer themes and antlers especially for fall and winter. I have a lumbar pillow in the same fabric as the tea towels and I love it. This tablescape is lovely!
