Proud to be an
American
everywhere ...
even in the middle of nowhere ...
Especially in the middle of nowhere...
that proudly and boldly celebrates being an American...
Booneshill Rd, Delina, Tennessee
A 4-way STOP in rural America
with an old country store on the corner...
An American flag is a recognized symbol of our country all over the world.
But, Old Delina Country Stor(e) is a symbol of our country, too.
A symbol of our liberty to pursue
T H E A M E R I C A N D R E A M...
Small independent stores owned by individuals, not corporate America,
are symbols that the American Dream is alive and thriving.
The Dream to be whatever we want and to do whatever we want
without a dictatorial government, deep-seated century-old traditions, or a rigid caste system
forcing us into pre-determined paths
of where we live and of which vocation we choose.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
are still the dreams of people everywhere.
The United States of America
is still a dream destination for oppressed, desperate people worldwide.
Our system is flawed, not perfect, but there is no other place I want to call home.
To be able to sit peacefully on my porch,
to own a small business, and
never to fear for my freedom
make me
Proud to be an American
on this Memorial Day and every day of the year.
Thank you everyone who has served or is serving our country
to protect all that we cherish to maintain the American Dream,
a Dream that is unique for each of us.

Yes, proud to be an American! Thanks for this thoughtful post.
ReplyDeleteWell said. I am proud to be a Vietnam Era veteran of the U.S. Air Force. The people I served with were magnificent people who live in my heart to this day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your service during a tumultuous time in our country. My husband was in the US Navy stationed in the Mediterranean during the Vietnam Era.

Proud to be both a Texan and American, every day of the year! Proud to live in a country where small business owners like you, Judith, can post daily about whatever is on your mind and the beauty you see in everything, and I'm free to read it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ginger. So glad to know you and glad that you read Botanic Bleu.

Thank you for reminding us how very fortunate we are!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that! While we honor all the men and women who have protected our freedoms, my special thanks goes out to both of my grandfathers- of which one is a Purple Heart recipient, my father, my father-in-law, and my husband, a retired Gunnery Sargeant in the Marine Corps. Ooh-Rah! God Bless America!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Judith!
ReplyDeleteI too am proud to be an American and give thanks daily for my freedoms.
Nicely done and your photos are beautiful.

Beautiful tribute, Judith!
ReplyDeleteMembers of my family and my neighbor's son have paid the ultimate price. We also have extended family stationed in the not - so - safe places "over there" now. I work with a young,(I call 40 young), Physician's Assistant who missed her youngest son's first day of Kindergarten and two of her children's birthdays when serving in Afghanistan and on the Mediterranean Sea during the tragic turmoil of Libya. Our service men and women give up so much of their daily lives for us.
I am so excited to read of your upcoming trip to France! I cannot wait 'til I can collect souvenirs within the lines and photographs on your blog!
I hope you are not affected by all of the harsh weather that has hit Texas!
I am a proud, yet concerned American.

Judith, this is a great post and I love the photos! I do hope you are doing well. I'm trying to find my footing again and hope to be somewhere close to normal before too long!
ReplyDeleteJudith thank you very much for sharing this Patriotic beauty with us at TOHOT!
ReplyDeleteJemma
Judith- as always this is perfectly put.
ReplyDeleteI am proud to be an American because of its people (like you).
