Sometimes I think I may have a fairy godmother,
or perhaps, a tender-hearted angel, who watches over me
and hears my heart's wishes.
With all the unusual amounts of rain in May,
the roadsides are still green into June and, for us in Texas,
even could be called lush with blooms.
For the first time, I noticed a large wild shrub
with graceful fronds loaded with white flowers
all along the roadsides and near wooded areas.
For several days, I thought to myself,
I wish I had some of those white flowers...
thought I need to take my clippers on the next errand
and cut some of those flowers.
Then, while doing a little yard work,
I found one of those white-flowering bushes
at the edge of my woods.
In all the 28 years I've lived here,
I had never seen this bush.
And, it is NOT a small bush...
multi-trunks, over ten feet tall, and over ten feet wide.
Perhaps this is the first year this bush has bloomed in my woods.
Perhaps my tender-hearted angel opened my eyes
to see what has always been before me.
White spent petals covered the path that leads into the deep woods,
and the air was filled with a light fragrance.
With a light heart, smiling to myself, I gathered several branches,
and filled containers throughout the house.
A little container here, a little container there....
Combined, the little containers are another red, white, and blue
gathering for the summer patriotic holidays.
Yes, I think I may have an angel who hears my heart's wishes.

Another heart's wish this summer was to be part of
a home tour with others.
I am so excited!

How pretty! Is it by any chance a honey locust? It's on stems like that, it's white, fragrant, and maybe the similarity stops there- I don't know. Can't wait until you find out what it is for sure! Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the bountiful rains brought about a miracle, Judith, just for your pleasure.

Judith, isn't it amazing what the May rains have brought to our woods, roadsides, and gardens. Everything is lush!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the garden tours.
Surely a gift from an Angel. I've never seen a bush like that, the tiny delicate flowers are pretty.

Just beautiful Judith! Sometimes, we find the most unexpected beauty right in front of us and we wonder how we missed it before! I really enjoy your writing style. It is always so refreshing! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteOh, I truly believe in "Ask and you shall receive" especially when nature's beauty is involved. What a wonderful answer to your heart's desire. I am in Carmel, California and did I ever get the desire of my heart....ocean, gardens, cottages and GORGEOUS shops...YOWSA am I in seventh heaven. Happy day, Judith. Anita
ReplyDeleteEvery picture makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely and delicate! It reminds me of bushes we had by the front door of the home where I grew up. Those were called spirea and I think that the clusters of flowers was more dense that what I can see from your photos. I really liked those tiny flowers! Glad you had that moment in the woods where you saw something new!
ReplyDeleteI love those flowers, they are so light and ethereal! Maybe they were the answer to a wish!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I think your wish was granted! Love the little flowers. So pretty! xxx Mara
ReplyDeleteReally pretty! Perfect in your Country French decor. What an unexpected delight to the senses!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love these unexplainable gifts? I have a friend whose gardens exploded with foxglove one year, and one year only. An ephemeral experience. But I think your bush will keep on giving. Happy for you!
Well, we do pray to have 'eyes that see'. Hurray for the blessing. I added a link to my blog for the garden party - I'm sure it will be great.

ReplyDeleteI especially love them in the blue vase!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and simple flower arrangements you made, Judith, and I love the variety of vases you used- especial the one in the first picture with scalloped edges.
ReplyDeleteI don't know any other way to contact you so forgive me for leaving this message here.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you and your family at this time. I am so sorry for your loss.
What a sweet, sweet post.
ReplyDeleteYou made me smile. :)
So delicate and pretty. I love finding surprises in the woods. I think my favorite find has been the tiny fairy slipper orchids (Calypso bulbosa), which only bloom in special conditions.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers look so pretty in your home. Enjoy them!
